Shopping for yummy mummy-to-be in Dubai

38+5, a perfect mani+pedi and a blow-dry always take away the focus 🙂

This is something I started to write when I was 38 weeks pregnant – but it’s never to late to speak about a little shopping, is it?! 😉

I’m not a fashion blogger but I kept asking myself WHERE are the SMART &  CHEAP maternity clothes in Dubai??

Yes, we are only going to wear these clothes for a few months BUT we do still want to look amazing and of course we also want to show off our beautiful baby bumps – and if we can do that without spending a fortune, then I will be one happy mummy!!

To be honest the selection is not huge in Dubai when it comes to maternity clothes – we really do need more (I really hope some maternity brand owners read this!!) however it is still possible to look good with a bit of thought… I discovered a few shops out here which have helped me to look pretty decent throughout my pregnancy – or so I think anyway :)… I gained almost 30 kg (66 pounds!) but fashion is still important to me  and I didn’t want to ‘just feel fat’! Being pregnant has to be one of the most beautiful experiences in a woman’s life and we should embrace that 🙂

I know everyone has their own taste, however, the pictures below are clothes (I admit I love dresses!) from shops and webpages which I think do great maternity clothes, I have mentioned their names below – and I hope it can inspire you! If not, there is always the second option, to shop like a crazy when you are on holiday in your home country 😉

A few ideas…

Everything with empire silhouette (dress or top with fitted bodice ending just below the bust), maxi dresses (also empire) and belts work well! The last dress is especially good in the beginning of pregnancy to increase size of belly (so people can see it’s not just a brunch belly!). Buy lots of basics which can be used over the 9 months (ensure there is lots of belly-growing space) like cardigans, t-shirts, a few good pairs of pregnancy shorts/pants and leggings. Use accessories like neckless, earrings and belts to spice up the outfits. If you prefer DIY check out Pinterest there are lots of ideas and tutorials! I started out by buying one size bigger than my normal clothes but as the bump grows its often more comfortable with maternity wear.

Where to shop…

Mothercare: I have found some great dresses for under 200 AED – especially when they just get new styles in. They also offer nightwear, lingerie and toiletries for the time after giving birth. I found the best selection in the Dubai Mall branch.

Mamas & papas: I have bought some cute dresses for under 300 AED – most styles are also good for breastfeeding (providing secret access to the boobs).

H&M: Offer cheap and basic selection for mums-to-be. The maternity line is limited and you must be fast, as it gets sold out quickly. I Must admit I bought quite a lot from their normal range and just bought one or two sizes larger.

Newlook.com: NL stopped offering their maternity line in the shops here but have a huge range of cheap maternity clothes online – I ordered quite a lot as they deliver to Dubai for free when you order over 55GBP/340 AED. (It was NO problem for me to order for over 340 AED!!). I found it cheap and a good fitting (i also ordered same size as I normally use in New Look shop). It took a few weeks to arrive but all worth it. It’s maybe a good idea to wait for their sale and I can especially recommend their multipacks and dresses.

asos.com Many different brands in various price levels. Free delivery worldwide!! Yay! They carry brands such as New Look, Mamalicious, Isabella Oliver, French Connection, Paper Dolls and Asos own brand.

Baby Bazaar: The baby Market on the last Saturday of every month in the Times Square Mall – you can be lucky to find a few new styles as well as preloved items.

HAPPY shopping mummy – you deserve it x
